USB to TTL serial adapter allows you to connect TTL serial devices to a PC through a USB port.  This adapter supports both 5V AND 3.3V operational , pin 3 on the 6 pin connector can be connected to the USB supply 5VDC or to the 3V3 regulator output on the FTDI chip.

5V mode the maximum current draw on this pin is approximately 500mA .

3.3V mode the maximum current draw on VCC is approximately 50mA

The module has a mini-B USB port which is used to connect to an USB port of an interfaced device (e.g. a PC). On the other side, the Board is serial converter module has breakout pins (Tx, Rx, VC and GND) that is connected to a microcontroller’s corresponding pins. Communication takes place using TTL (transistor-transistor logic). It has a 3.3/5V DC jumper and will supply 500 mA through its Vc pin.
